The root chakra is located at the base of the spine. It connects us to our sense of groundedness, as well as instincts of survival. When off balance, we will feel low on energy, alienated and easily angered. When in balance, we are secure, stable and full of health and energy.

The crystals that most positively affect the root chakra are hematite, bloodstone, garnet, ruby, carnelian, jasper, red jasper and smokey quartz.
The color that follows the root chakra is red, so foods like apples, beans, raspberries, tomatoes, strawberries, cherries, pomegranates, beets, and watermelon are the best for the root chakra.
The best scents for the root chakra are vetiver, patchouli, cedarwood, cloves and black pepper. Load these scents into your essential oil diffuser, or burn them as incense.
A mudra is a hand position, used for meditation. The mudra for the root chakra is called gnyan mudra, where the tips of thumb and index finger touch.
Yoga is a fantastic way to help balance your chakras. The poses that best help the root chakra are the mountain, forward bend, warrior 1 and childs pose.
I’m doing an entire post on reflexology, but basically rubbing, pressing or poking different areas of the body can affect other areas. For the root chakra, these areas are a fingers width below the base of the wrist across, and areas of the internal and external sole of feet.
