I’ve never been a huge yoga class person, mostly because I’m really not a huge fan of working out in front of people. I prefer to use an app to guide me through a personal yoga ‘class’. Today I wanted to share my favorite poses and why I like them, and then give you some app recommendations.
My Favorite Poses
This is kind of a two-in-one pose, but I love what this pose does for my back. It’s easy to do this pose before bed or in the morning to kind of loosen up the muscles.
Extended Puppy Pose
This pose is a lot like childs pose, but your butt is in the air rather than on the ground. It’s supposed to look like a stretching puppy. I love it for again, stretching my lower back but also my shoulders & arms.
Happy Baby Pose
This is a pose that I almost always do before I go to sleep at night. It’s such a great overall body stretch and really helps me sleep.
Half Lord of the Fishes
This is a fantastic lower back stretch. I like to do this one if I’ve spent a little too much time on the computer or my back is just giving me issues.
Pocket Yoga is the first app that I highly recommend. Unlike most others on this list, it just requires a one time purchase of $2.99 and then you get access to the entire app. There is no subscription required. If you have absolutely zero idea what yoga is, I don’t recommend this app as there’s not a ton of instruction. If you can follow a picture/video and get yourself to the right position, then you should be fine with this app. There are plenty of beginner classes you can take & they get more advanced from there.
Yoga Studio is an app that I’ve used for a very long time. It was my first real yoga app experience, and it’s a pretty awesome app. It’s $1.99 a month, and it’s less if you pay every three months or once per year. It’s definitely a very inexpensive option compared to in-studio classes. There are tons of different class options, and you can create custom classes, which is my favorite. I’ve created custom classes for yoga before bed, morning yoga, quick yoga etc.
Asana is definitely my favorite of the three, but also the most expensive. It’s $37.99 for three months or $58.99 per year. It has amazing classes that provide excellent instruction and video. My favorite part is the daily class that changes every day. It’s a short workout usually, but it’s my favorite thing to do in the morning.
