Acupressure & tapping involve various pressure points on the body to relieve pain or other disorders. Our bodies are all connected, and applying pressure to different parts of the body can help with many things.
Intro to Acupressure
Acupressure involves adding pressure to various points on the body to relieve stress, anxiety, headaches and more. For each of the points, apply pressure using your fingers, thumb or back of hand for one to three minutes. You’ll feel immediate relief.
Key Acupressure Points
On the head, some points to focus on are the earlobes, center of eyebrows, and hollow of the neck. Pull down on your earlobes and massage them for stress relief. The center of eyebrows can help relieve headaches, stress, and anxiety. Pressure on the hollow of the back of the neck below the skull can help relieve neck pain.
On other parts of the body, the spots directly below the collarbone can help sore throats and anxiety. The outer edge of the crease in your elbow can help relieve tension and congestion. Halfway up your upper arm can fight nausea and clear your head. The webbing between your pinkie and ring finger can ease dizziness and back pain. Between the thumb and index finger can relieve headaches and the middle of your foot can help stress headaches in particular.
There are many pressure points on the palm and bottom of the foot, but I’ll cover those specifically in a different post.
Intro to Tapping
Tapping involves a little more of a mindset shift and tends to help more with mental things, like stress, anxiety, and depression. Tapping involves thinking of whatever is stressing you out or upsetting you, repeating an affirmation while tapping a karate chop point, and then tapping each key point five to seven times.
How to Tap
First, think of whatever is bothering you. Think of whatever is giving you anxiety, making you sad or stressing you out. Then, come up with an affirmation to help. For example, if I was anxious because I had to train two new employees, my affirmation would be “I am smart and fully capable of training these employees.” Then, say out the affirmation out loud or in your head, while tapping on the karate chop point (on the outside of your hand, about a finger width away from your wrist) three times. Lastly, tap each of the following points 5-7 times, while repeating the affirmation in your head. The points are at the inner corner of each eyebrow, the outside of each eye, under each eye, below each collarbone, a hand length below the armpit on your side, on the chin, under the nose and on the top of the head.
